Constructed of hot moulded Agba (a type of African Cedar). Seven layers of laminate are placed in a vacuum cover and heated, impregnating the hull with glue, rendering the construction light, strong and nigh on rot-proof.
She is effectively a long-keeler with two smaller bilge keels to port and starboard, and a sturdy transome-hung rudder on her canoe stern.
This yacht’s hull appears to be in tip-top condition.

Two large single berths forward, with loads of stowage, including hanging lackers and four decent sized drawers.
There is a gas-fired catalytic cabin heater.
The saloon dinnette converts to a double berth, and the galley is nicely laid out, with plenty of work surface area and an immaculate cooker with oven and grill.
There are lockers everywhere, masses of well thought-out storage. The whole boat is bright and airey, which reminds me, the saloon windows have been replaced and are nice and clear, no leaks that I could see, which good news!

I have to say I didn’t know much about these boats before I stepped aboard this delightful Fairey Fisherman, now for sale with Boatshed Port Solent. Everyone has heard of Fairey Marine of course, but fewer know about the 80 or so Fishermen that were built. The process and construction are intriguing, if you’d like to know more, give me a ring. The hull is based on Fairey design for a ship’s lifeboat (hence the canoe stern), so I don’t think there will be any issues with seaworthiness!
These boats range from a few thousand pounds up to this example, sitting firmly at the top of the tree. She won the Concours D’elegance in the owner’s rally of 1999, and the present owner bought her shortly after that. Since then he has showered love and many hours upon her, and the result is a quite exceptional classic motor sailor. New engine, new chainplates, new stainless steel keel bolts, the list of improvements and proper maintenance is pretty comprehensive.
It is difficult to convey just how bright and spacious she is down below, with brilliant storage and a classic feel to the interior woodwork. Not many boats have fitted drawers under the forward berths, and the galley area is a joy to behold. On the forward bulkhead there is a charming little watercolour of a Fairey Fisherman under sail, and this will be staying where it belongs - with the boat it depicts.
Lift the engine cover and there is the 37.5 HP Beta diesel, fitted in 2006 and with only 100 hours on the clock. “Why are they selling such a lovely boat?” I hear you cry! Well, just look at the engine hours and you can answer your own question. It’s simply that the ex-Royal Navy couple who own her have just not had the time to sail her in recent years.
So folks, the only way you are going to get the measure of this cracking little boat is to come and see her, so give me a ring here at Boatshed Port Solent and we’ll set up a visit!
