First a little background on the Hunter 34. It was hugely popular model. The Hunter 34’ sloop was designed by Courtland Steck. with a production run from 1993 to 1987 with over 900 built according to the folks at Hunter. Other sources have stated as many as 1200 were sold. Regardless, the 34 certainly reflects Hunter’s success with building an affordable boat with style, amenities and seaworthiness that make the 34 a production boat success. The Hunter 34 was replaced by the Legend 35. There are large and active Hunter owners associations. The current owners have not raced this boat but the 34 has a reputation for being a fast boat in light air due to the tall B&R rig at 51’. Accommodations below gave me the feeling of a larger boat with cabin head room 6’4. A standard 3 cabin layout you find the Aft cabin is spacious to port with a double quarter berth, hanging locker, working porthole for ventilation the cabin gives privacy with a teak door and a vented folding hatch that opens to the nav station. Just forward of aft cabin is the nav-station, with vhf radio, JVC stereo/cd with Bose speakers, and electrical systems control panel. Electronics – new NMEA 2000 Network, German GMI 10 Instrument Display, Garmin GPS, Maretron Depth and Speed Sensor , Maretron Ultrasonic Wind and Weather Station, Fuel Tank Sensor, USB PC Adapter . The settee follows and doubles seating for the navigation station/ Chart Table and converts to a single berth. Forward of the port settee you enter with is a full width head area with a stainless steel basin and mirror to port and the full sized head and shower with a fold down teak shower seat is enclosed area opposite of the vanity on port . The passageway to the forward double V-berth passes centre of the head. This configuration makes great use of the available space. The V-berth is large although head room drops a less than 6’ due to the slop of the cabin trunk. Storage is found below the berth and in hanging lockers to both port and starboard. Bug free ventilation is good with a centre hatch with sliding screen and shade. Continuing on starboard and forward of the head is the dinette with athwartships seating this allows for the easy conversion of the dinette to a the 3rd double berth but limits seating at the table comfortably to 4 for dinning. The galley follows and takes on a U shape with a large and deep double basin stainless steel sink, with hot and cold water, icebox, gambled stove, oven, and below counter storage. The microwave is inside the first step of the companionway. She comes with all linens and galley stock as well has her cradle.
