Commentaires du Broker
I expect that if you are reading this you will know all about the Peter Duck. The original was built by Lauren Giles, and named after the eponymous old sailor. This and other books by Arthur Ransome; “We didn’t Mean to go to Sea” (featuring a boat based on Ransome’s own “Nancy Blackett”) and “Swallows and Amazons,” were responsible for a small boy taking to the water and eventually ending up as a yacht broker here at Boatshed Port Solent. This boat is number 33 of the 38 or 39 that were built, so she is a later one, if you can call 1968 late. Iroko on oak, spruce masts, long keel, built like the proverbial, this is definitely not an average white boat! She is more spacious down below than many classic yachts of this size, with good headroom and a reasonable forecabin, not at all cramped. Her electronics are elderly but the very best of their generation, Brookes and Gatehouse no less. She has an ultra-modern Tacktick cordless wind instrument, and the varnish on her capping rail is as modern as you can get; it was only applied last week! The engine and gearbox were new in 2007, as were the shaft and propeller, so there is very little to do apart from cosmetics. In fairness she may need a bit of titivation here and there, only the sort of thing you’ll be doing every season, but then she is made of wood you know. Give me a ring and come and see her, but leave your heart at home, or you’ll lose it!
